2006 Recap

The sun was shining, birds were singing and the good folks at the Brookline Golf club put on one heck of a good time. 2006 was a tremendous success and for the first time in our brief history the event sold out. And I was delighted to announce that checks totaling $11,100 were mailed out to three greater Boston agencies; The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, The Victim Rights Law Center and the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program.

Each year we keep getting bigger and better. Stay tuned for 2007!

2005 Recap

Most of you who know me, and the cast of characters associated with Team Dean understand that we like a challenge. In the spirit of fun and competition, in 2005 we set our fundraising goal at $10,000. We also decided to shake things up a bit this year and announce this year's beneficiary prior to the tournament. Based on the one statistic below I am sure you can understand the choice and fully embrace the recipient - - the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC). I am truly amazed at the work these folks do for the betterment of our community.

I am so proud and delighted to announce that the tournament was a such a tremendous success that we were able to donate $8000 to BARCC. This was the largest single donation within our short history and proved to me that announcing the recipient prior to the tournament was key to the success.

I am honored by the continued participation and truly humbled by the outpouring of generosity.

2004 Recap

Switching venues in 2004, the 3rd annual tournament kicked off at Wayland Country Club and marked the first time we hosted the tournament within the immediate Boston area. The move proved immediate dividends and we were able to recruit nearly 50 golfers for the event.

The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center was chosen along with the Children's Advocacy Center of Suffolk County as the 2005 recipients. In less than three years the total amount since inception donated to Boston based agencies topped the $15,000 mark. A mark that I am still proud of today.

2003 Recap

2003 can be summed up in one word. "Rain". It was our second year and we all headed down to Plymouth with a sense of passion and purpose. We were having a great morning and nothing could dampen our enthusiasm. (Pun intended). Then the rain came. Rain was actually an understatement as the Northeast was pummeled by what was left of a tropical storm. But in typical Team Dean fashion a bright spot in the weather forecast showed a brief break in the storm starting at 9:30am. We had our opening. The tournament was delayed by 90 minutes and at 9:26am the cannon sounded marking the beginning of our second tournament. Take a look at the beautiful sky... Ahhh Sun!

Despite the early weather, the golf tournament was a tremendous success and we raised nearly $6800. The recipients chosen included the Victim Rights Law Center, the Association of Haitian Women and ROCA.

2002 Recap

The Team Dean Charities, "Fore" Victims of Violence tournament, held at the beautiful Southers Marsh Golf Club was certainly memorable. The Golf Classic helped raise over $3500 to support the work of 3 professional agencies in the Boston area: Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, The Network/LaRed and PACT.

What a gorgeous day it was. The high of 82 degrees with a slight breeze while over looking the beautiful cranberry course in Plymouth. The day started with the traditional New England fare of Dunkin Donuts coffee and donuts. Followed by a number of funny moments on the driving range where the participants showed there tricks of the trade. After an emotional speech on behalf of all those who helped bring the tournament to fruition, the cannon thundered and the inaugural Team Dean tournament commenced.

Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to win all sorts of goodies including golf equipment, CD's, gift certificates and even a wine tasting during the longest drive and closest to the pin competitions.

All in all, a fun day, best summed up by one of the players who commented: "the most fun I've had on a golf course in a long, long time."

Thank you to all of our sponsors, players and volunteers for making the day such a huge success. The proceeds of the day will support those in the trenches fighting the violence in our communities.
